About my Streets Walking Tours
My Streets is a social enterprise that empowers people who are homeless to become walking tour guides of their town
My Streets empowers people who are homeless to become paid walking tour guides and breathes new life into places through the art of storytelling. The programme was established in 2014, has trained 51 people who are homeless and delivered tours to 11,000 customers to date. My Streets runs training courses that focus on confidence, presentation, storytelling, research, and tour guiding skills. We partner with professional trainers who facilitate each trainee to develop their own unique story of place. We also partner with various employers and education groups to provide pathways into further education and employment and over half of our trainees have progressed into further employment and education to date.
My Streets strives to empower people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or have experienced it with the opportunity of employment. All graduates have an opportunity to not just become paid tour guides but to play a vital role in a socially and financially sustainable business. All excess revenue generated by My Streets guides goes towards funding ongoing training programmes.
We are honoured to have Sr. Stan Kennedy, as our patron.
